yum yum

today i decided to try the sweets (and savories) at this bakery called "lebanon springs bakery" which has what seems to be a zillion locations here in RAK. like we need more sweets. i need to slow down on the sampling or i'm going to weigh 900 pounds.

wow. WOW. they are gooooood. all kinds of yummy phyllo doughs with different nuts, syrups, etc. some have raisins and ginger and others have semolina. i'm going to have a stomachache because i keep sampling different ones. one is yummier than the next! the savory were just okay - the dough was very greasy. i'm going to try to make them anyway so we'll see how that goes.

so that particular branch is across the street from safeer. i needed a few things, so i popped in with julian in the stroller. i hang my reusable shopping bags from a hook on the stroller and usually put my purchases inside, then empty the bag when i get to the register so that they can fill it back up again.

here in the hypermarkets, you usually have to leave your purchases from other stores at a desk (where they give you a number like a coat check) in front of the store, or security has bag sealers to seal the plastic bags, or put your paper bags in a plastic bag and seal it. (not killing the environment, eh?) since i had no purchases in the bags, i thought it wasn't an issue (also b/c i do that at carrefour all the time).

the security guard freaked out. i tried to explain what i was doing (i should have known that was a bad idea) and he just didn't get it. not at all. the "logic" - i still need to get in that zone. anyway, i ended up taking a basket and when i got to the checkout, the security guy came RUNNING over to my cashier with my bags saying, "she doesn't want plastic". hilarious. still, i don't want to go back there because they don't have everything and i always end up having to go to carrefour anyway.
