and then the rains came

it POURED this morning. unbelievable. luckily, only one window leaked. i had to keep a huge beach towel under the window to catch the water flowing in. it rained lightly for 1-2 hours and then downpoured for almost 1 hour. our complex is up on a bit of a hill, but since there is no real drainage system here (because in the grand scheme of things, it doesn't rain that much here - december thru february is apparently when it rains, if it does), the water has nowhere to go. the driveway / parking area in front of our door was a lake. (you have to come up onto a curb and then up a few steps to get into the apartment, which is good.)

when we ventured out in the afternoon to pick up some victuals (who uses that word?! don't know where that came from), the parking area of somebody's business (residence?) was totally flooded. i couldn't get a good look because i was driving, but it looked like the water level was above their front door. they must be used to that.
