the dubai marathon was today, however, and pretty much screwed up part of our plans today. we were planning on going to the new atlantis hotel on the palm jumeirah (the big fake island shaped like a palm tree) because they have an aquarium. at every freaking turnoff to get to the palm, the road was blocked off. we drove around and around the city (following several other cars obviously trying to go the same way) and eventually decided to give up. others just parked their cars in front of the barricades and sat and waited for the roads to open. with a 16 month old child in the car, that wasn't happening. we'll see the aquarium another day.
