the water has arrived, sort of

so i tried again to call the water supplier today. the guy on the other end of the line was pretty clear in his explanations, so i was psyched. they were sending someone out "right now" to give me water. explaining where i live is the complicated part, as there are no street addresses. i just listed a bunch of landmarks. luckily for me, i noticed that our upstairs neighbors use the same company and had an empty bottle out for pickup. when i mentioned that, he knew where i lived.

so the truck gets here and the two dudes inside it speak zero english. that must have been the guy i "talked" to the other day on the cell number that was left on the card. our super was in the vicinity, so he tried to translate. however, as they are unloading the 5-gallon jug (you know, like the giant water cooler poland spring ones) into my living room, i'm trying to explain to them that i don't have the bottle stand to dispense the water. deer in headlights.

even the super (whose english isn't great, mind you, but better than "hello", which is about all i got out of the delivery people) wasn't following me. when my 5 attempts at explaining what was missing went in one ear and out the other, i say, "how am i supposed to get the water out?" and manoush (the super) goes over and unwraps the top for me and charades the flipping it over. more charades back from me about the missing item.

i'm still not sure what happened, because manoush blah-blahed to them and the delivery guys nodded and drove off. so either  a) i'm getting no stand or b) manoush was telling them not to worry because what kind of idiot doesn't know how to operate a bottle of water or c) manoush actually told them i don't have it and they are sending someone "later" with the key element to having a 5-gallon jug of water delivered to one's home. we'll have to wait and see. the best part is about "later" - it could have been today (it wasn't), tomorrow, or like the fridge escapade, 1 week from now. or never. sigh. i'll be making another phone call tomorrow.

and hey - you people and your frigid temperatures must be cursing us out. it went down to 57.2 degrees F (14 degrees C) last night / this morning. we're soooooo cold. okay, not as bad as you all, but cold. (cut us some slack, you'll be laughing in a few months when it's 110 in the shade over here and you can't go in the pool because the water temp has reached and surpassed hot tub territory.)
