first of all, the attached picture is of julian stuffing his face with a chocolate bar given to him by anne, the receptionist at RAK global logistics, where the office is until the office part of the factory is finished.
i put a pic of julian because he attracts so much attention.
so much so, that i SWEAR we saw the sheik of RAK today in the mall.
serge thinks i'm insane and need new glasses. which is probably true on both counts. however, we were sitting at the lovely manar mall food court enjoying a fruit smoothie, when two men come and sit near us and start talking to julian. i turn around and my initial reaction was, "no way, it's the sheik." then i started thinking, "hmm, wouldn't he have body guards or something. it's not him." but i was trying to look, not stare and process his face, which is everywhere. he's on all kinds of billboards and banners and flags - speaking of which, there is something going on involving him on february 12th and i'm not sure what it is, because all of the signs are in arabic. but in all the photos, he has sunglasses on. something about this guy made me think of the sheik.
if it were him, though, people might crowd around. but maybe the guy wanted a burger from mcdonald's. they taste better when fresh, not after someone went out to get it and brought it home 30 minutes later when it's a soggy mess. or maybe he wanted to be with the peeps. maybe he comes out once in a while and just tries to blend in with everybody else. it wasn't crowded today when we went, and his protection could have been really inconspicuous. or it was just some dude who looked like the sheik.
either way, the guy and his friend were really nice. i do have a knack for catching "celebs" off guard and then not making a big deal out it (leo dicaprio, cameron diaz/matt dillon, harrison ford, to name a few). maybe, just MAYBE, we met the sheik of RAK today.
hey, i'm allowed a few hallucinations every once in a while, aren't i?
