forbidden fruit

well, not really, since you can buy it and it isn't illegal or on a black market or anything.

today i went to the al hamra cellars to buy wine. i was the only car with RAK license plates. parking lot was full of dubai people stocking up. stuff is relatively expensive, mainly because you pay 30% duty on it. a word of advice - if you want your dom perignon when you come visit, pick it up in the airport and save yourself the taxes. for the little stuff like beer and wine, you can always find something reasonable, even with the 30%...

i followed that errand with a quick trip to spinneys to the pork room. i'm not a huge pork eater (although if i weren't allowed to eat bacon, i'd kill someone). scratch all of that. i love bacon. i love sausage. i love those dried sausages and prosciutto. mmmmm, pork! i haven't eaten any pork in well over a month. ordinarily that wouldn't bother me. i think because i don't see it in the supermarket, that pork room today just set my tastebuds a flutter. i wanted to buy everything. alas, i settled on some lardons and a "note to self" - come back next week and get some more pig.
