is it possible

that i'm not as smart as i think i am? (i'm taking that from a seinfeld episode where elaine asks jerry, "is it possible i'm not as attractive as i think i am?")

i don't profess to know everything about food, but i think i'm pretty good at knowing what goes into stuff and what stuff tastes like. the other day, i bought some macarons (the french delicate cookies, not the coconut things) at a patissierie in dubai. other than the fact that they cost about $3 each, which was highway robbery, they were quite good. julian was sucking them like nobody's business (and would have eaten the whole box had i not stopped him). so i'm like, "oh, we had better not give him the white one because it has nuts on top. the pink one, the chocolate one, the yellow one should be fine." i haven't been giving julian nuts because everyone says you shouldn't give them nuts before 3 or whatever so that they don't develop an allergy.

so what does serge say? "i don't know why you're freaking out, they ALL have nuts in them."

pardon me?

yes, macarons are made with almond paste and almond powder. i just didn't know that (and boy do i feel like a moron). and then i remembered that we had them for easter last year and my cousin's child was gobbling them up too, and she also didn't want to give her nuts because she had just turned 2. whoops. what an idiot i am!

guess our kids aren't allergic to almonds! hooooo-ray.
