happy national day!

yesterday (december 2) was UAE national day. serge had the afternoon off, so we had our eid brunch at the cove rotana, then cruised out to the hilton beach resort to watch the sunset. en route to the hilton, we were able to see a line of cars in old RAK getting decked out (that's what they do here to celebrate - there are car decorating competitions and everyone paints their cars with the UAE flag, hearts, pictures of the sheikhs, etc.). on the way home, we took a detour to escape traffic and ended up getting a perfect view from on a hilltop of the two fireworks shows going on. pretty cool.
