the oman part of dibba

can i preface this message about our journey today with a slight complaint? man oh man are people lazy here. i just did a run to carrefour while serge was putting julian to bed. biiiiiiiig mistake. not only are there 9 million people there, some with multiple carts FILLED to the brim with crap, but they have to block every single aisle. then they look annoyed if you want to pass them before they are finished zoning out / hanging out / not reprimanding their children.

i get in line at the cashier and the woman didn't feel like putting her groceries on the belt. so she got the bag boy to do it (now everyone has to wait because no one will bag their own groceries either - he was finishing up the customer who had just paid). and shock, didn't bag her own groceries either. the worst part was, she stood right in my way as i'm flinging my items into my reusable bags (she used the store plastic, tsk tsk), reaching around her because i must have said "excuse me" about 3 times and she clearly ignored me. ugh.

anyway, we had a sand storm here today, so we skipped the beach in favor of checking out the oman part of dibba. actually, we were trying to check out the hotel "six senses" in zighy bay, which is supposed to be amazing, luxurious, etc. because they may be buying chocolate, although that is not confirmed. the ride to the gates is quite impressive, as the road is basically just set through the mountains and rocks.

unfortunately, serge wasn't able to get a hold of the chef ahead of time, so we weren't allowed up the mountain since we didn't have a reservation. we will be back, mark our words.

so instead of just heading back to RAK, we stopped at the golden tulip resort in dibba, oman for an utterly uninspiring lunch. we each had fish (the same fish - hammour) and they could not have been more different. mine was supposed to be grilled, but it was coated in flour and pan sauteed in a massive amount of butter, with a huge vat of melted butter on the side, not what i was really in the mood for. serge had fish and chips - his batter wasn't cooked enough or was just a bad rendition of fish and chips, so it was a pale yellow color and not very tasty. julian had fish fingers - moist, not greasy, golden brown, delicious. he won for the day. but how odd that the rest of it was so screwed up!

we headed home and relaxed because the heat is a killer. we're moving up over the 100 degree mark here and have been for the past few days. the oven is on, baby!
