The train!

For yesterday's surprise day off, we decided to go to Dubai and take the metro since Julian is obsessed with trains. Bonus that the Dubai metro cars are blue (like Thomas).

We took the metro from Rashidiya (first stop on the red line) to the Dubai Mall, where we indulged in some treats from Paris's own Ladurée (that mall really does have everything) before heading over to the Shangri-La hotel. We ate dinner at Hoi An, a French-Vietnamese restaurant that I have been wanting to try since we got here. It was delicious. Julian was really well-behaved and the servers just fell all over themselves trying to please him. They took him down to the buffet restaurant to get a plate full of dessert, got him child-friendly plates, utensils and cups, and basically just kept him occupied and happy.

It was nice to be out for dinner at a nice restaurant in Dubai (first time we've done that while not staying at a hotel). The food was really good - summer rolls, beef pho, mmmmmm. We need to go back there! Makes me nostalgic for Vietnam...
