Well, in case you haven't heard (or didn't realize), the ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, Sheikh Saqr bin Mohammed al Qasimi, passed away yesterday. He was in his 90's and is believed to be the second longest serving monarch in the world. He had been ruler of RAK since 1948. Yesterday started a week-long period of mourning for RAK (and I think Dubai). Serge got off of work early yesterday, has off today, and the kids have a week off of school.
We took a drive down to the center of town yesterday afternoon. Not much to report other than having police block off the areas where the funeral would be held. Tons of helicopters passing overhead, we're assuming they were transporting sheikhs and people of power from the other emirates.
If you have a moment, google him and read about the amazing things he did for this emirate. He was truly an interesting, forward-thinking man.
